Fairview Gardens

Each day on the farm is different as our highly trained mentors are aware of the passions and curiosities of the group. If your child signs up for more than
one week, it is likely they will do some of the same activities however, the week will feel different because we do not have rigid activities for each day of
the week. Rather, we see opportunity for a fun endeavor and create a teachable moment from pure joy of the moment. Most weeks include some combination of: Brushing and caring for the goats, harvesting, planting and tending our children garden, climbing avocado trees, storytelling, cleaning the chicken coop, cooking or canning with Fairview food crops, picking strawberries, cooperative adventures, Nature Awareness activities, arts and crafts and so much more . . .

Little Shredders:
Let us help your 4 to 6 year old develop a positive and safe ability to skateboard. Sk8 Skool director James Pike will work individually with the Little Shredders to teach proper standing, pushing, stopping, turning and, in some cases, going down small ramps as well as all of the skills the Sk8 Skoolers are learning. Plenty of handholding and a ratio of 5 shredders to one staff ensure enjoyment from learning skills and techniques of a lifelong sport. Skater’s Point is closed to the public so only little shredders, Sk8 Skool participants, staff and Junior Counselors have access to the park. Proper fitting helmets, elbow and knee pads are mandatory with wrist guards optional. Shredders must bring their own board and safety gear in proper working condition. Shredders, with help from James and his staff will also learn to deconstruct and construct their board. Included in each day’s schedule, during meeting time staff discuss the day’s upcoming events, do Salba stretches, and organize each child into instructional groups based on age and skill. At the end of the day, there are approximately 10-20 minutes of “free skate” time, allowing the skaters to practice their newfound skills, on their own or with help from the instructors. During Sk8 Skool, skaters earn tickets for prizes and awards to be raffled off on the last day of each session.

Society of St. Vincent De Paul

Circle V Ranch: One of the most valuable ways of instilling self-esteem into a child’s life is through outdoor programs.  The hours spent in outdoor programs represent an opportunity to help children grow and acquire important social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills that otherwise would not be possible in an inner city classroom setting. Consequently, the Camp offers nine, one-week sessions of resident camping, which are designed to help children learn necessary life skills, build self-esteem, increase their knowledge of nature, and receive mentoring from supportive role models, while spending time in a positive and nurturing environment. Camp’s activity periods in which campers can participate in their activity of choice, or spend time with friends and counselors who are not in their outfit.  During their stay at camp, children may choose from such activities as arts and crafts, aquatics, sports, nature study, field trips to Lake Cachuma and Goleta County Beach, and campfire programs, along with lots of songs and great food.  The Camp’s carefully selected staff is fully certified to facilitate specific programs, such as archery, swimming, and nature classes.

Wilderness Youth Project

Wilderness Youth Project (WYP) promotes meaningful social change through an innovative, nature-based curriculum and mentoring program. Our programs
return children to the traditions of childhood: outdoor time, child-centered exploration, skill/self-esteem development and connection with the natural
world. Get ready for one or two weeks of exploring Santa Barbara's most treasured wilderness and natural areas! Dragonfly camp is for older kids (9-12 years) who aren't quite ready for an overnight but ready to learn about wilderness skills and the natural world around them.
Days will be spent at local beaches or trails while we create our own fire kits, make cordage from plants, track animals and laugh throughout the day!
